In 2004, on a more serious note, we re-tried Alfred Dreyfus, a French Jewish Captain who was accused of espionage and stealing secret government documents, and was sent to Devil's Island. Alfred Dreyfus is a very serious trial or should be done so as it deals with anti-Semitism. The Dreyfus Affair, a shame to all of France from the past, is a great vehicle to explore this topic and give Dreyfus a second chance to be heard. For the more serious Trial of Alfred Dreyfus, we had him marched out in uniform by other soldiers where he was stripped of his medals, sword was broken (thrown to the ground) and his buttons and epaulets torn off. This is called a field stripping, a great dishonor to a soldier. We then sang La Marseillaise while Dreyfus called out, "Viva La France!"

Alfred Dreyfus
A loyal French Army Captain, who happened to be a Jew, is tried for espionage despite Emile Zola's condemnation of the government.
